ARTIST STATEMENT:
My work centers around the process. Since I hope to be an architect in the future, I create structural pieces that focus on mechanical-like steps. The final product of my work, however, always includes an abstract component which allows for personal expression in my art.
In my creative process, I get my inspiration from my materials. I chose a medium and then have a vision in mind of what I want the piece to be. I always incorporate a material that I have never worked with before in my art to expand possibilities of future works. Thinking architecturally, I start with the foundation of my piece, and then as I work, I start to see the final picture come together. My creativity comes in last to complete each piece.
With my work, I focus on the "how." My goal is for viewers' first thought to be, "how was that made?" Keeping this in mind, I base my art in sculpture and textural pieces to allow for more interaction between the art and the viewer.
